What are the three food trends you’re seeing/or recommending to make summer entertaining easy and delicious?
Summer entertaining is all about being outside, and preparing things in advance so you can enjoy the party instead of serving your guests. The three trends making that easy this season are pizza parties, caviar on everything or just a quick bump by itself and effortless, beautiful raw bars that make a great party centerpiece.
Everyone loves pizza. Whether you are hosting a boozy bridal shower or a child’s birthday party, hot and fresh pizzas are a crowd pleaser. It is easy to prep in advance and grill or use your favorite at home pizza oven. You can prep salads and desserts for a pretty buffet to go along side your saucy main event.
Caviar is always a special occasion, but it’s really having a moment this summer. Whether you are slathering those perfect pearls in your favorite chip or enjoying a full spread with all the trimmings, caviar elevates the experience with little effort. Don’t forget your mother of pearl spoon! Using metal can effect the flavor.
Raw seafood tower are a peak indulgence moment. Hot take, they are easy to make at home, stunning as a cocktail hour centerpiece and a blast to enjoy.
What are the three drinks trends you’re seeing/or recommending this summer?
Summer cocktails are meant to be seasonal, simple and stunning. With an abundance of herbs and fruit, Summer is the perfect time for fresh ingredients. Simple, herb forward cocktails are an easy crowd pleaser. Think about stepping up your vodka soda or gin and tonic with Sage or Thyme. You can serve herbs fresh as a garnish, or easily infused them into a simple syrup or your alcohol itself. A week before your gathering, place a few sprigs of your favorite herb onto your favorite spirit and enjoy the magic on party day.
If herbs aren’t your thing, this Summer is all about a Spritz with a twist. We all love the classic Italian combo of bubbles and Aperol, but even a classic can feel tired when you over indulge. This season, when you feel like you need an Italian getaway, step up your Spritz. You can play with the color and flavor by subbing Aperol for YOUR favorite liquor. Try limoncello or Lillet to mix up your experience.
And if herby and sweet aren’t your jam, maybe a savory snack is more your speed. What is usually the first thing you do at a party? Belly up to the bar for a drink. And if you are like me, you need a little snack with that cocktail. Sexy, savory snack garnishes are this summers staple for your booooozy beverages. Think about yummy bacon, caramelized onion cheddar cube or blue cheese stuffed olive, skewered and splashed into a dirty martini. Not only does it add dynamic flavor to your drink, it doubles as a tasty snack.
What are your best tips for keeping things simple, fresh, and delicious?
Summer is about growth and abundance. Fruit, herbs and flowers are in high supply. The most magical food is created with the best ingredients. Don’t worry about making fussy food, keep it fresh, simple and beautiful. Herbs and fresh summer fruit are a fabulous addition to everything. Don’t be afraid to give your dishes a sweet or savory take. Fruit and herbs are perfect for drinks, apps, salads, mains, pizza and dessert. Get creative and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Anything else you’d like to add?
The best parties have great drinks, enough food and a killer playlist. A thoughtful food, drink and dessert menu that can be prepped in advance, is key for you to enjoy the fruits of your labor come party time.
